This site runs on Ghost, a free and open source software platform. Ghost does not use tracking cookies of any kind.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it


If you sign up for the newsletter by providing your email address, we use your email (and optionally your display name) to send and manage the newsletter. To unsubscribe, either use the toggle by clicking on the 'Account' link while signed in to the site, or click the 'Unsubscribe' link at the bottom of each newsletter email.

Paid members

We offer paid memberships that give access to additional content. We use Stripe to process payments. Any payment card information you use to purchase a paid membership is collected and processed directly by Stripe, and we never physically receive or store your full payment card information. Stripe commits to complying with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) and using industry standard security. Stripe may use your payment information in accordance with its own privacy policy here:


Newsletter subscribers are able to leave comments on some posts.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: Your profile picture is visible to other subscribers in the context of your comment.

This site stores your email address, the contents of the comment form, the display name you provide, and your Gravatar profile image, if you have one.

Data deletion

If you are a current or past subscriber and want us to delete your data, either contact us by clicking the 'Account' link while logged in to the site and using the 'Contact Support' button, or send us a message through the Contact form.
