Friday Open Thread (with Birds)

Dear Friends,

A brief question today: do you have an especially beloved, especially admired, especially associated-with kind of bird?

I ask this thinking of New Zealand’s Bird of the Year competition (in which anyone can vote!), as well as casting my mind back a lot to the New Year’s Bird letter I wrote back in January, while looking at a flock of pigeons flashing circles around one building nearby, recalling the Beirut of my childhood and the strange wisdom of its rooftops.
