Hoisting a Sale: "Turning the Leaves" to Apex Magazine
A few weeks before Lynne Thomas announced that she was stepping down from her position as Editor-in-Chief of Apex Magazine, she wrote me an e-mail telling me that she would be, and was putting together her last few issues. She concluded by saying, “Amal, will you write a poem for me?”
I can refuse Lynne nothing. So I wrote her a poem called “Turning the Leaves,” and she has accepted it, so it will appear in Issue #55, the December 2013 issue, along with work by Rachel Swirsky, Maria Dahvana Headley, Kat Howard, Ken Liu, Sandra McDonald, and Daniel José Older.
It will be Lynne’s final issue, and I’m honoured and touched that she asked me to be part of it. It’s the end of an era that I’m sad to see pass, but grateful to have participated in. I can’t wait to see what she does next.
